Queer Theatre’s 1st Birthday Party
Friday 19th September 2025 | Two Brewers, Clapham
On Friday 20th September 2025, Queer Theatre celebrated its first birthday in spectacular style at The Two Brewers, Clapham. Hosted by Ryan Hinds and Artistic Director Andrew Keates, the night was nothing short of a triumph — a true outpouring of queer joy.
The evening opened with performances that captured the heart and spirit of our community. Cathy Fox stunned with a hauntingly beautiful violin arrangement of Pink Pony Club, while Dav Andrews filled the room with soaring Chappell Roan covers. Joshua Lawson Sanchez had the audience in stitches with his hilarious take on One Night Only, before Bran Isabella’s original music took us somewhere altogether new and breathtaking. Lisa Peters gave a performance so powerful it earned a standing ovation, while Freddie Haberfellner delivered belly laughs aplenty. Fraser Richardson’s moving poem reminded us of the deeper struggles and triumphs that bring us together, before Andrew Keates gave an impassioned and inspiring speech about the power of queer theatre.
One of the evening’s defining moments was a heartfelt address by our patron, Adèle Anderson, who reminded us why queer voices must be heard and celebrated. The live auction followed, raising over £1,000 thanks to extraordinary donations from Sir Stephen Fry, Charles Jeffrey of LoverBoy, London Gay Big Band, Nick Hern Books, and many more generous friends and allies.
And even after the curtain fell, the celebration showed no sign of stopping. With DJ Tempo on the decks, the dance floor stayed alive until 4am, filled with queer theatre-makers, artists, and friends united in joy, laughter, and solidarity.
The first anniversary was more than just a party. It was a landmark moment, a chance to reflect on all we have achieved in just twelve months — from our 2B: Acting Classes and Queer Play Reading Club to OutCast showcases, The Show People Podcast, the Queer Theatre Awards, and countless socials, marches and milestones. Above all, it was a reminder of the extraordinary community at the heart of Queer Theatre, and the bright, bold future we are building together.
