Andrew Keates’ closing words
At the end of the ceremony, Artistic Director Andrew Keates offered a tribute to everyone who has kept showing up, especially the newcomers who arrived not as a polished version of themselves, but as they were, to be better and make connections.
“So many of us know that voice. The one that tells us to isolate. To stay home. To not be seen. To not risk being wanted, or rejected, or witnessed. The one that says, ‘You’re safer on your own.’ The one that convinces you that your absence is easier for everyone. That voice is a liar. Look around. This room is proof. Look what we’ve made happen by showing up for each other”.
Thank you to every member who has made 2025 such a special year for Queer Theatre: for the work, the care, the bravery, the tenderness, the joy, and the ridiculousness. Huge thanks to our friends at The Railway and The Two Brewers for hosting us and holding space for queer artists, to Nick Hern Books, Theataccounts, our patrons, and all the incredible people who have championed Queer Theatre this year.
