Queer Play Reading Club - I F*cked You In My Spaceship
by Louis Emitt-Stern

Tuesday 18th November 2024
The Railway, Clapham

The Queer Play Reading Club is a monthly event celebrating LGBTQ+ playwriting in a supportive, social space designed to help queer theatre-makers grow and make new connections. Held in partnership with Nick Hern Books, each session takes place as a table read in the private upstairs room at The Railway, a queer-run pub in Clapham.

We began the evening with brand-new queer writing, offering emerging LGBTQIA+ playwrights and writers the chance to share short scenes or monologues and receive supportive feedback from fellow artists. This was followed by a group reading of I Fucked You In My Spaceship, with playwright Louis Emmitt-Stern in attendance, joining Queer Theatre’s Artistic Director, Andrew Keates, for a relaxed discussion and Q&A about the creation and journey of this brilliant play.

This month’s play: I Fucked You In My Spaceship by Louis Emmitt-Stern

‘What if I look down at my baby and I don’t know who they are? Just some… entity. Alien to me. Staring back. A nothing. Or worse, look down and all I see is Ed Sheeran.’

Two couples each invite a stranger into their homes in the hope of sparking new life. Instead, they find themselves threatened by invasion, alienation and abduction.

Louis Emmitt-Stern’s uncanny and razor-sharp sci-fi comedy-drama I Fucked You In My Spaceship received a sold-out premiere at VAULT Festival 2023, winning the Origins Award for Outstanding New Work. It subsequently transferred to Soho Theatre, London.

Everyone who attended took part in the read-through, enjoyed the informal atmosphere, and had the chance to ask Louis questions about his writing, process, and inspirations.
