The Show People Podcast with Andrew Keates & Sir Stephen Fry

Thursday 12 June 2025 | Two Brewers, Clapham

After a four-year hiatus, The Show People Podcast returned with a sold-out live launch event at The Two Brewers, now its official monthly home. Hosted by Queer Theatre’s Artistic Director, Andrew Keates, the evening featured a rare and intimate conversation with patron Sir Stephen Fry.

Across the night, Fry reflected on his remarkable four-decade career as an actor, writer, broadcaster, and activist — from Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie to Twelfth Night, Me and My Girl, and his recent Mythos trilogy. He discussed creativity, queerness, mental health, and the transformative power of storytelling, sharing candid behind-the-scenes insights and heartfelt wisdom.

In one of the evening’s most talked-about moments, Fry addressed and firmly denied claims of transphobia, directly challenging J.K. Rowling’s stance on transgender rights and calling her “a lost cause.” His comments were widely reported around the world, underscoring the event’s cultural significance.

The audience enjoyed a mix of wit, warmth, and cultural insight that captured the essence of the podcast’s original appeal while showcasing its new live format. All profits supported Queer Theatre’s mission to tell LGBTQ+ stories and nurture queer talent, marking the evening as both a celebration of theatre and a rallying point for community.
