Newsletter: April with Queer Theatre
April is looking rather gorgeous at Queer Theatre.
If you have been meaning to join us, come back to us, or finally see what all the fuss is about, this is a very good month to do it. From our weekly Acting Classes for LGBTQIA+ People, to this month’s Queer Play Reading Club with special guest Harry McDonald, to our Walk & Talk hike at Box Hill, there are plenty of ways to step into our community this month.
And just beyond April, we are preparing to cause a little divine chaos…
Acting Classes for LGBTQIA+ People
Every Monday
📍Two Brewers, Clapham
Refreshments from 6:30pm
Class runs 7pm - 9:30pm
Socialising until late
After several weeks spent rehearsing for our OutCast showcase, we are now welcoming many new people into the room, making this the perfect moment to come along if you have been thinking about joining us. It is also an ideal time to rejoin us if you have been away for a little while and want to reconnect with the company.
Across April, we will be exploring exercises that are especially good for beginners, alongside devising work, improvisation, and a variety of acting styles. So whether you are completely new, returning to acting, or already experienced and looking for a queer creative space to play and grow, you will be warmly welcomed.
If you are looking to build confidence, make friends, and become part of a supportive LGBTQIA+ creative community, now is the time to join us.
Queer Play Reading Club: Foam by Harry McDonald
Tuesday 21st April 2026
📍 The Railway, Clapham
Refreshments from 6:30pm
Class runs 7pm - 10pm
Socialising until late
Our monthly Queer Play Reading Club, held in partnership with Nick Hern Books, brings LGBTQIA+ writers, actors and theatre-makers together in a relaxed, low-pressure, queer-run space.
The evening begins with the chance to share brand-new queer writing aloud, before we move into a group reading of Foam, Harry McDonald’s gripping play set against London’s skinhead and gay scenes of the 1970s and 1980s. Inspired by a true story, it is a powerful exploration of identity, extremism, and the collision of the personal and political.
We are delighted that Harry McDonald will be joining us for the evening’s Q&A. Attendees will also receive a copy of the play, courtesy of Nick Hern Books.
Queer Theatre Walk & Talk: Box Hill Circular, Surrey Hills Hike
Saturday 25th April 2026
📍 London Victoria → Box Hill & Westhumble Station
This month, we are launching our very first Queer Theatre Walk & Talk, heading out of London for a spring day with queer community and allies.
Our first walk takes us to Box Hill, with scenic views, woodland trails, the River Mole, and the famous Stepping Stones, all at a chatty, supportive pace. It is a wonderful opportunity for queer creative people to come together outdoors, connect with one another, and do something positive for both their mental and physical health.
The route is 7.6km and moderate, with some steep and muddy sections, so proper walking boots are essential. Spaces are limited to keep the group social, manageable, and well looked after.
Queer Theatre Progress Flag Pins
We are delighted to share we now have Queer Theatre enamel pin badges!
Our pin badge is a joyful way to show your support for Queer Theatre and LGBTQIA+ theatre-makers. Featuring the Queer Theatre logo with inclusive Progress Pride flag detailing, it is perfect for jackets, bags and lanyards, letting you wear your pride in Queer Theatre wherever you go.
Whether you have joined us for an acting class, come along to the Queer Play Reading Club, taken part in an OutCast showcase, attended the podcast, or supported any of our other events, this pin badge is a simple way to carry Queer Theatre with you and stand proudly with our mission to tell LGBTQ+ stories and nurture queer talent.
It is a little badge that says a lot.
Made from enamel and aluminium, it measures approximately 3cm x 3cm and fastens with a butterfly clutch on the back.
