Queer Theatre launches vibrant spring season

Coral Wylie

Queer Play Reading Club
in partnership with Nick Hern Books

Third Tuesday of Every Month
Doors: 6:30pm | New Writing & Read-Thru from 7pm | Socialising until 11pm
The Railway, Clapham

Our Queer Play Reading Club is a monthly space to celebrate queer playwriting, share new work, and build community. Each session begins with an open slot for playwrights to share fresh pages for feedback, followed by a full play reading, a relaxed discussion, and a Q&A with the guest writer led by our Artistic Director, Andrew Keates.

This season, we’re welcoming special guests including playwright Harry McDonald, Coral Wylie (founding member of the Bush Theatre Young Company), and playwright, lyricist and screenwriter Jake Brunger.

Thanks to our partnership with Nick Hern Books, attendees receive a copy of the play text each session, so you can build your own library of queer writing.

Upcoming sessions:

  • Tuesday 17 March: The Last Stand of Mrs Mary Whitehouse with Caroline Bird

  • Tuesday 21 April: Foam with Harry McDonald

  • Tuesday 19 May: Lavender, Hyacinth, Violet, Yew with Coral Wylie

  • Tuesday 16 June: Four Play with Jake Brunger

Luvvie: Gods & Monsters

Friday 8th May 2026
Doors: 7pm | Cabaret from 8pm | Industry Auction at 9:30pm | DJ until 4am
The Two Brewers, Clapham

A brand-new regular cabaret club night from Queer Theatre, named in honour of patron Sir Stephen Fry. This is a meeting point for LGBTQIA+ creatives and allies, from Fringe to West End.

Serve face. Serve myth. Serve monster.

Sir Stephen Fry said:

“I am so proud to be connected, even in my own small way, to Queer Theatre… I do hope you’ll look at the programme and support this amazing venture.”

The Stepping Stones at Box Hill

Walk & Talks, plus year-round culture trips

Not everyone finds connection in party spaces. So we’ve created Walk & Talks: a sober, supportive outdoor initiative for LGBTQIA+ creatives and allies. These monthly hikes are a chance to reset, move your body, and have proper conversations with your community in the English countryside.

This spring:

  • Box Hill – Saturday 25 April

  • Leith Hill – Saturday 23 May

  • Arundel Park – Saturday 27 June

In the colder months, we keep things going with culture days, including an LGBTQIA+ tour of Tate Britain on Saturday 7 March.

And we’ll be taking part in various Pride events throughout the year.

Shakespeare Through a Queer Lens with Alasdair Buchan

Monday 25th May 2026
Doors & Refreshments From 6:30pm | Class Starts at 7pm | Class Finishes Approximately 9:30/10pm
Drinks and Cabaret From 10pm - 1am
The Two Brewers, Clapham

A practical, actor-first masterclass for LGBTQIA+ performers who want Shakespeare to feel clear, playable, and alive. Led by award-winning actor and facilitator Alasdair Buchan (The Mousetrap, West End; Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain), whose theatre work includes productions for The Jamie Lloyd Company, this session gives you tools you can use immediately: breath, rhythm, intention, and how to land heightened language with truth and ease.

You’ll work on short scenes and speeches on your feet in a supportive room, exploring what changes when we bring a queer lens to the text, the relationships, and the power dynamics. Whether you’re Shakespeare-curious or audition-focused, expect confidence, craft, and community, plus time afterwards to socialise with the group.
