Newsletter: Pride, Pronoun and Podcasts with Sir Stephen Fry and Evan Placey | June with Queer Theatre

Happy Pride Month! This June, we’re delighted to welcome our patron Sir Stephen Fry for a very special evening, join playwright Evan Placey at our second Queer Play Reading Club, and we continue nurturing London’s LGBTQIA+. performing arts community in our weekly acting classes, all building toward our OutCast Showcase for LGBTQ+ actors and writing in July.

The Show People Podcast Returns – with Sir Stephen Fry

Thursday 12th June | 7pm – 10:00pm

📍 The Two Brewers, Clapham

We are honoured to welcome our patron, Sir Stephen Fry, as the first guest for the live return of The Show People Podcast with Andrew Keates.

From A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Blackadder, Wilde, and QI, to acclaimed writing, theatre work, and activism, Stephen has shaped British culture for decades. In this intimate conversation, we’ll explore his life, career, and the lessons he’s learned in the performing arts.

Whether you’re a performer, creative, or someone who’s been moved by his work – this is a rare chance to experience Stephen’s warmth, wit, and insight in an extremely intimate setting. All profits support LGBTQ+ projects at Queer Theatre.

🎟️ Only 100 tickets available – and they’re going fast. Don’t miss out.

Queer Play Reading Club: Pronoun by Evan Placey

📍 Upstairs at The Railway, Clapham

☕️ Tea, coffee and snacks from 6:30pm
📝 Share new writing from members of the group from 7pm
📖 Reading starts at 8pm, followed by discussion with Evan Placey
🍸 Social until late

We’re back for the second session of the Queer Play Reading Club, a warm, social space to celebrate LGBTQ+ playwriting in all its forms. Held in partnership with Nick Hern Books, each evening begins with short scenes and monologues from emerging queer playwrights, offering a brilliant opportunity to hear your work read aloud and receive supportive feedback from fellow theatre-makers.

We then read a full-length published play as a group. This month it’s Pronoun by Evan Placey – a moving love story about transition, testosterone, and James Dean. We’re thrilled to share that Evan will be joining us in person for a relaxed discussion and Q&A.

🎟️ Tickets: £22.50 – includes a copy of Pronoun by Evan Placey and exclusive discounts on other LGBTQ+ titles from Nick Hern Books.

2B: Acting Classes for LGBTQ+ People

Every Monday | 6:30pm – 9:30pm

📍 Two Brewers, Clapham

London’s most popular weekly acting class created exclusively for LGBTQ+ people — and it’s become a real community hub for queer actors of all levels.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or trying acting for the very first time, 2B offers a bold, supportive space to explore character, connection, and queer identity through improvisation, storytelling and devised work. This month, we’re collaborating as an ensemble to develop original queer material that’s dynamic, authentic and unapologetically us.

We’re now working towards discovering LGBTQIA+ material and exploring queer stories to present at our OutCast Showcase on 25 July 2025 – a chance for our community to take the stage and share what we’ve been building together.

☕ Free tea, coffee and snacks from 6:30pm
🎭 Class runs 7pm–9:30pm
🍸 Social drinks and drag DJ Amy LaQueefa after class until 2am.
