Queer Theatre Launch Party

12th September 2024 | Two Brewers, Clapham

On Thursday 12th September 2024, Queer Theatre officially launched in style at The Two Brewers, Clapham. Friends, artists, allies, and supporters came together for a night of performance, celebration, and community spirit that marked the beginning of a new chapter for LGBTQ+ theatre in the UK.

Hosted by the brilliant Charlie George, the evening featured an extraordinary line-up of performers including Steve Furst, Lady Imelda, Cassidy Janson, Emma Linders, Masha Mallow, and Katherine Rhodes, with DJ Demon keeping the dancefloor alive until 2am.

The night saw the announcement of Queer Theatre’s distinguished patrons, including Sir Stephen Fry, who sent a heartfelt message of support. A lively charity auction and raffle raised thousands of pounds to help the company begin its vital work, while Artistic Director Andrew Keates introduced Queer Theatre’s first initiative — the 2B: Acting Classes for LGBTQ+ People.

In a deeply moving moment, Andrew shared why he chose his own sobriety date as the launch of Queer Theatre. Speaking bravely about surviving profound sexual assault and facing addiction, he reflected on the strength he found in recovery and the power of community. His message was clear: no LGBTQ+ person should ever feel alone.

The night captured everything Queer Theatre stands for: community, creativity, and unapologetic celebration of queer voices. It was a bold and joyous beginning, setting the tone for the exciting programmes and productions that have followed.
