Valentine's Trip To London Zoo
Saturday 15th February 2025 | London Zoo
Valentine’s weekend 2025 saw Queer Theatre host a heart-warming day of playful exploration, creative inspiration, and community connection at London Zoo. Whether attendees came alone, with a partner, or with friends, the day offered a joyful antidote to what can sometimes be a lonely time for theatre-makers.
We began by gathering at the zoo gates before being welcomed by our friend Alex Kemsley, LGBTQ+ Senior Press Officer for London Zoo, who led us on an exclusive mini tour of hidden gems and shared fascinating facts about the animals and the zoo’s conservation work.
Throughout the day, participants observed a wealth of animal behaviour to inspire their craft — from the fierce swagger of lions to the precise stillness of reptiles, the playful curiosity of penguins, and the slow, graceful reach of giraffes. These moments became invaluable reference points for animal studies in performance, sparking ideas for movement, posture, and character instincts.
After a picnic lunch, we continued our journey through Gorilla Kingdom, Big Cat Territory, the Reptile House, Penguin Beach, Butterfly Paradise, and Into Africa, absorbing the unique physicalities and energies of each species.
The afternoon ended with a group photo taken by our talented photographer, Boyan Georgiev, capturing the joy, connection, and creativity of the day. Everyone left with new inspirations, stronger community ties, and a gallery of images to remember an experience that was as much about shared humanity as it was about the animals themselves.
