Newsletter: July with Queer Theatre

This month, we continue our weekly Acting Classes for LGBTQIA+ People, gather for Queer Play Reading Club with the brilliant Tabby Lamb, attend London Trans+ Pride together, and end the month with our OutCast Summer Showcase of Queer Actors & Writing.

Queer Play Reading Club: Happy Meal with Tabby Lamb | Tuesday 21st July

This month, we’re reading Happy Meal by the brilliant Tabby Lamb, who will be joining us in person for the evening.

“Starting in the quaint days of dial-up and MSN, Happy Meal is a funny, moving and nostalgic story of transition, following two initial strangers on their journeys from teen to adult; from MySpace to TikTok; from cis to trans…”

Tabby Lamb’s joyful trans rom-com won a Fringe First Award at the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe before touring across the UK and internationally. Her other work includes Since U Been Gone, How We Swam, Tuesday, Trans Wicked, The Law of Mayhem and Trans-It.

As always, we’ll begin by reading a little new queer writing from anyone who wants to share work, then we’ll read the play together around the table, followed by a Q&A with Tabby, hosted by Andrew Keates. Everyone gets a copy of the play-text to take home, thanks to our partnership with Nick Hern Books.

It’s a gorgeous night for actors, writers, theatre-lovers, regular members and anyone who wants to spend an evening in great queer company with a brilliant queer play.

Tickets are very limited, and Tabby Lamb will be leaving the UK soon for professional reasons, so don’t miss this opportunity to connect with her before she goes.

London Trans+ Pride | Saturday 25th July

Queer Theatre is proud to be attending London Trans+ Pride in celebration of our trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming and intersex members, artists, theatre-makers, friends and allies.

Our presence is about showing up with love, care and respect for the trans+ members of our community, and standing together as part of London’s wider LGBTQIA+ theatre family.

This is free to attend, but we are asking everyone planning to join us to RSVP so we know who is coming, can share meeting details, and can keep the group connected on the day.

Queer Theatre members, friends, family and allies are all warmly welcome.

OutCast: London’s Showcase of Queer Actors & Writing | Wednesday 29th July

We end July with one of the biggest nights in the Queer Theatre calendar: our fifth, OutCast Showcase of Queer Actors & Writing.

OutCast always sells out, packing The Two Brewers with queer people celebrating queer stories, queer talent and the brilliant performers growing through Queer Theatre.

Expect a powerful, funny, moving and electric evening of new, lost and classic LGBTQIA+ writing, performed by queer actors and writers stepping into the spotlight.

We are also inviting agents, casting directors, producers, directors, artistic directors and theatre-makers to come and see the work. Complimentary industry tickets are available for invited industry guests.

For performers, it is a chance to be seen. For the industry, it is a chance to discover exciting LGBTQIA+ talent. For our community, it is a joyful night of showing up for one another.

Buy your ticket now and let’s once again fill the room to the rafters with queer people passionate about queer people and our stories.

Acting Classes for LGBTQIA+ People | Every Monday

Our weekly Acting Classes for LGBTQIA+ People continue every Monday night at The Two Brewers, led by Queer Theatre’s Artistic Director and award-winning theatre director Andrew Keates.

These classes are for LGBTQIA+ performers of all abilities, from working actors and trained performers to people returning to acting, trying it for the first time, or simply looking for a creative queer space to belong to.

Each week, we play, train, rehearse, experiment and work with brilliant queer material. You can expect acting exercises, improvisation, scene work, text work, ensemble practice, and a room full of people who want you to grow.

Right now, we are also rehearsing towards our OutCast Summer Showcase of Queer Actors & Writing on Wednesday 29th July 2026, so July classes will focus on finding, shaping and rehearsing LGBTQIA+ material for performance.

You do not need to be in the showcase to come to class. Every Monday is still open to everyone, and you will be warmly included whether you want to perform, support the work, learn more, make friends, or just come and see what Queer Theatre is all about.

Help us tell queer stories and nurture theatre-makers.
